i've taken the month of september off to spend some loving time with my hands, my mind, and my new roborovski hamsters.  it has been productive. i've been writing a bunch of new music for my groups cicada music and green and gold, i've been practicing a ton, and i've been engaging in a few new ideas with my pals who organize the ratchet series with me, including the addition of a house concert featuring brittish saxophonist john butcher and chicago's jason roebke occurring november 1st. click here for more deltails.

i've missed a bunch of great shows in chicago, so i'm looking forward to getting back in there.

speaking of shows, i will be celebrating the release of the nick mazzarella trio's newest offering on october 5th at the hideout. come out and see what we've been up to.

in addition to nick's record, i am excited to hear that three other recordings are getting ready to drop this fall as well. check it:

jason stein quartet on delmark records

marketa irglova's debut solo record, anar, on anti-records

and last but not least, boris hauf's chicago sextet will be releasing a new recording, next delusion, on clean feed records in mid november!

in other news, i discovered that joyful noise released a night of music featuring the magic of fred lonberg-holm's lightbox. it's available for download on joyful noise records featuring past and present joan of arc musicians and other freaks of nature.

is that 5 new recordings in one update? it's fun when being super busy manifests into tangible results.

lastly, i want to announce just a few more recordings coming down the pipe:

1) scorch trio will be releasing a new record featuring mars williams on rune grammofon taken from a live recording in oslo earlier this year. go rune!

2) harmonic convergence is planning on putting out a live solo concert i played earlier this year at elastic in chicago. go brent!

3) utech records is planning on releasing my original music concrete work, MILKWORK, the impetus for the solo project of the same name. go keith!

4) tres hongos, a trio featuring jacob wick on trumpet and marc riordan on piano, are planning on releasing a record this winter. go ross!
