a jack dejohnette solo from when he was around 23 years old. he's playing on jackie mclean's 1965 record jacknife (blue note 40532) on the tune, "climax". he uses a simple idea [sn/bs] and manipulates and exploits a simple idea throughout the solo. it's refreshing to hear a drummer that isn't obliged to force behaviors, display and pyrotechnics. it's still explosive, but it's his virtuosity of idea that gets me. enjoy.
